EVA27: Project Controls Performing in Turbulent Times

The unprecedented and unexpected adjustments of operating through a global pandemic; the challenges of the current economic climate; these are, and have been, turbulent times. EVA27, the most recent of Steve Wake's popular EVA conferences, sponsored by RPC and Oracle Construction and Engineering, focused on how we address major project delivery when the stability we have enjoyed for 20 years has vanished overnight. The event attracted an unrivalled line-up of speakers and a vibrant audience from a wide range of industries.

Follow the links below to find out more about the speakers and the event programme and to view the slides for each of the presentations.

About the event

EVA27 brought together a full programme of inspiring and insightful 30-minute presentations exploring resilience –  both human and organisational – adaptability, innovation, sustainable practice such as Degrowth and Circular Economy and more.

  • How will data analytics cope with a variable future?
  • How can we establish project skills for all, 'disappearing' the project manager so that everyone can do it?
  • How is the industry coping?
  • How can Government make reliable cost and delivery assumptions?
  • If there is an upsurge in project requirements, are we ready to answer?

Proudly sponsored by RPC and Oracle Construction and Engineering

RPC is delighted to have been Gold Sponsor of EVA27 alongside Oracle Construction and Engineering. We understand the power of Project Performance, tracked through Earned Value Management, to transform the efficiency and outcomes of projects and programmes of all sizes and in all industries and we were excited to be able to share a case study of our work with Dublin Airport – presented by David Hurren – on Day 1 of the conference, and to join attendees in what was a lively and fascinating programme of presentations.

About the Organiser

The first EVA Conference was set up by Steve Wake in 1996 to promote the use of Earned Value Analysis (EVA) in the UK which became what we know as EVM. Steve has curated and chaired every conference since then, whilst becoming a globally recognised subject matter expert in Project Controls. This is the 27th conference of this kind. Steve founded the EVM and the PMC Sigs in the Association of Project Management (APM) and was the Chairman of APM who led it to chartered status. He is now a member of the guild of Educators and chair of the British Standards Institution M/S 2 committee with responsibility for national standards in project programme and portfolio management. He is leading the development of BS202001 Project Controls in which MOD is a participant and working closely with PsACE community harmonising estimating practice in government and its supply chain. Also he represents BSi on ISO WG12 developing an Implementation guide to EVM.

The ISO workgroup that is creating an Implementation Guide to EVM was at EVA27, and the event introduced the new BS202001 Project Controls British Standard. This new specification standard will describe a broader oversight horizon for inception of an idea through to final use, not just the delivery of scope.

EVA28: Coming soon

EVA28 will be held at the Armourers' Hall, Moorgate, London on 11 May, 2023. We have exclusive use, once more, of this historic venue in the heart of the City of London. Ticket numbers are strictly limited and networking opportunities are built in throughout the event to enable time and capacity for making connections and sharing knowledge with fellow mid-to-high-level project controls professionals. Speakers remain available throughout the event and at the dinner on the evening of the event, tickets to which can be purchased separately.
